Swift-Lite Charcoal tablets are quick-lighting, self-burning fuel discs coated with a safe ignition agent (like saltpeter). You use them because raw resin incense (such as frankincense or myrrh) needs high, steady heat to melt and release its fragrance, but cannot burn on its own.
Why Use Them with Resin
- High Heat: Resins need intense heat to vaporize their aromatic oils properly.
- Even Burn: They provide a hot, consistent surface for 45 to 60 minutes.
- Clean Profile: Quality brands burn mostly odorless and tasteless so they do not ruin the smell of the resin.
How to Use Them Step-by-Step
- Prepare the burner: Fill your fireproof bowl halfway with sand or salt.
- Hold the tablet: Grab the edge of the charcoal disc securely with your metal tongs.
- Light the edge: Apply a flame from a lighter or match to the edge of the tablet. It will crackle and spark briefly as the self-lighting agent catches
- Wait for the glow: Let the spark spread across the disc. Wait until the tablet stops sparking and turns a light gray ash color over the surface (about 1 to 2 minutes).
- Place in the burner: Carefully lay the hot tablet onto the bed of sand or salt in your burner.
- Add the resin: Place a small pinch or a single tear of resin right into the center dip of the tablet.
- Ventilate and enjoy: Open a window because burning resin creates a thick, fragrant smoke.
- Cool and clean: Let the charcoal burn out completely and turn to cold ash before trying to clean or throw it away.
